In order to develop and maintain a competitive science program, South Mountain Community College continues to seek external funding and student internships to achieve these goals:
- Science faculty remains current in educational methods and their students conduct real-life and relevant laboratory investigations.
- Our college proposes increased use of current technology and scientific instrumentation. After researching the instruments used by undergraduate students for teaching and research, SMCC identified an essential core of instruments needed for our students.
- SMCC faculty and advisors provide scholarship and internship opportunities to support learning and to provide students a bridge from college to a science career.
Based upon these goals, SMCC submitted the following proposals:
- The United States Department of Defense (2003)
Project Title: Cross-Disciplinary Engagement Program
- The People of Arizona: Proposition 301 ('04/'05)
Project Title: Creating a Collaborative Bioscience Learning & Research Center
- The United States Department of Education (2005-2006)
