Organizations Supporting SMCC Science
SMCC continues to support Bioscience and provide current educational and scientific technology. Since 2003, SMCC has provided funding for:
- Major instrumentation and support equipment ($45,000) These funds provided a Scanning UV-VIS Spectrophotometer with kinetics analysis, a digital refractometer, and support equipment.
- Biotechnology Laboratory ($20,000) – A classroom was refit for biotechnology and houses the DNA sequencer and the PCR.
- Bioscience Analytical Instrument Room ($10,000) – A storage space was remodeled to house the GC/MS, the FTIR, a UV/VIS, and digital refractometer.
These funds are allowing SMCC to expand instrument literacy among students, increase problem-solving skills, and provide centralized locations where students in a variety of classes can access the equipment.
